About Us

My name is Laura Munoz Burkhead. I wrote a children’s book about grief and loss that serves as a love letter to my eight grandchildren.

 Through my work as a director of funeral services, I see grief in people every day, which led me to feel a deep need to write this book for my grandchildren. What Do I Do Without You? was originally intended only for my family, but the number of people who asked for a copy and who shared with me how much a book like this is needed, inspired me to share it beyond my family and friends.

I also believe there is not enough support or guidance for children going through difficult times, whether it’s the separation of parents or the loss of a friend or family member. In addition to this lack of resources, I’ve noticed that many parents struggle with what to say, especially when they are grieving themselves.

It is my hope that" What Do I Do Without You? will resonate with children on many levels and offer them comfort during times of loss.

       By honoring the ones we miss with stories and laughter, perhaps the weight of grief won’t feel quite so heavy.
